Reverend Eugene Folks Jr.
Rev. Eugene Folks Jr. was born December 13, 1960 in Washington D.C. He is a native of Montgomery, Alabama and the only child of the late Reverend (Pastor) Eugene Folks Sr. of the Shinning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Chicago, Illinois and Mother Willie Ruth Johnson (Faithful Member) of the Mount Gillard Missionary Baptist Church, Montgomery Alabama. He is a Graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, Montgomery, AL “Class of 1979”. He is married to the former Sylvia D. Brown of Montgomery, Alabama. He entered the United States Army in June 1979 and ended his military career on July 1, 2009.
Rev. Folks accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior on March 11th, 1990, under the Pastorate of Rev. John L. Alford, of the Mount Gillard Missionary Baptist Church, Montgomery, Alabama. Rev. Folks answered yes to God’s call and assignment into the Gospel Ministry, on Sunday, January 19th, 2003, under the spiritual preaching, teaching and leadership of Bishop Eric G. Howard, of True Vine Outreach Ministries, El Paso, TX. Bishop Howard Licensed Rev. Folks, as a Minister of the Gospel, on March 23rd, 2003. On May 18th, 2003, Rev. Folks attained a Ministerial Ordination Certificate from Bishop Howard. Due to military orders, Rev. Folks moved to Fort Leonard Wood (FLW), Missouri in July 2003. He and his family united with the Greater Community Missionary Baptist Church (GCMBC), St Robert, Missouri, under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Dr. William R. Boone, Senior Pastor. For the next two years, Rev. Folks and his family served diligently in several ministries of the church. He served as coordinator and lead minister of the “Jail & Prison Ministry”, where his duties included recruiting church members, coordinating volunteers in corrections training and preaching & teaching the Gospel to inmates, at three Missouri State Correctional Facilities and the Waynesville, MO (Pulaski County) Jail; he served as a member of the Adult & Mass Choirs, as well as the Male Chorus; he also served as a member of the Nursing Home Outreach Ministry, the Laymen’s Movement and the Couples Ministry. He was appointed as Lay Pastor of the Mission, Evangelism and Outreach Ministry. Rev. Folks attained a second Ministerial Certificate of Ordination on January 20th, 2004, from Pastor Boone. In August 2005, military orders took Rev. Folks and his family overseas to Wiesbaden Germany, where they united with the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Wiesbaden, Germany, under the leadership of the late, Rev. Joseph L. Freeman Jr., Senior Pastor. At New Hope, Rev. Folks and family involved themselves in ministry. He served as Adult and Youth Seniors Sunday school teacher; he was appointed lead of the church’s “Operation Outfit” Outreach Ministry that consisted of managing a clothes closet, food pantry and weekly serving of at the Teestube Homeless Shelter, downtown Wiesbaden, Germany; he served as a youth minister and he and Sylvia led the “Marriage Ministry”; he also served as a member of the Brotherhood Men Ministry.
Rev. Folks was appointed and served as Assistant Pastor, from September 2006 to April 10th, 2009. He also served as Assistant to Pastor Freeman, in his responsibilities as Moderator of the National Baptist Association of Germany (NBAG). Upon his retirement from the US Army, Rev. Folks and family moved back stateside to the Huntsville, AL area in March 2009. In July 2009, Rev. Folks and his wife united with the Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church (PGMBC) in Harvest, Alabama, under the leadership of Rev. C. Jermaine Turner, Senior Pastor. Rev. Folks and his wife shared their “Ministry of Helps” gift wherever needed, they served as ministry leaders of the church’s Couples Ministry and they both served as teachers in the Christian Education Sunday school program. On April 16th, 2016, Rev. Folks accepted his call and assignment to the office of Pastor, of “Grace Covenant Worship & Outreach Center", Huntsville, AL.
Rev. Folks holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration (Management), a Masters of Art Degree in Human Resource Development and a Master of Religious Education Degree from Liberty University Theological Seminary, Lynchburg, VA.
Rev. and Sister Folks are the proud parents of two sons: Jamaal Demond Folks (32) and Xavier Darnell Folks (26). Jamaal is married to the former La Shaun Wright; they have one son, Noah Malachi Folks (7) and one daughter, Nyla La Shaun Folks (6) and they currently reside in San Antonio, Texas. Xavier currently resides with Rev. and Sister Folks in Madison, Alabama.
